The journey towards becoming a PhD has been one of the best things I experienced in my life. Learning how things work, build ideas and experimentally test them, interpret outcomes and communicate those findings in a logical way to generate new knowledge - this is what I was basically doing over the last almost 5 years (where 2 of these were working hard in the pandemics) - and now it seems I'm approaching the finish line. Looking at my work and the paths I took to have it, I can definitely say that I would have done MANY things differently if could turn back time.
Don't get me wrong, it is not that I'm not proud of what I've achieved, but the knowledge I acquired during this process just enable me to see better alternatives: ideas, experiment design, time management, and the list goes on... and for me, this is what a PhD education journey is all about: to become the best scientist possible and become able to make great science in an independent form. I didn't rush to finish faster, in fact, I haven't considered any other possibility than to devote my full efforts in become the best scientist I could.
To be completely honest, I still do not think I am good enough. This doesn't mean I'm not confident on the skills I built over these years, but it seems that the more I become better, the more I raise doubts on my knowledge. Even with these mix of feelings, I must say that I'm super happy that I faced this challenge with this mindset. Now that I'm wrapping things up, it's time to start looking ahead for the next steps!
